We enjoyed a steak dinner and cake the night before Marand’s 40th birthday (to help throw him off the ‘surprise party’ on the 9th)
We surprised him on Wednesday with a genuine ‘Old Folks Home’ meal with friends and family. It was a hoot.
He was escorted in wearing slippers, and suspenders, riding in a wheel chair. The tables were decorated with balloons and toy wind-up chompers (dentures) on feet. I instructed all the adult guests to remain seated during the entire meal, while they were served by the kids. I read Psalm 37:25 out loud “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread”.
After they took their ‘pills/vitamins’ (tic-tacks and peanut M&M’s), they were served prune juice and helped to have a napkin ‘bib’ folded into the collar of their shirts. The 53 guests were served pre-loaded trays of Salsbury Steak with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and jello. All chased down with tums and water.
We wrapped up the evening with two rousing rounds of BINGO. The winners were serenaded with "For he’s a jolly good fellow”. What a good sport Marand was, and what Sillyness abounds to keep spirit laughing. Praise God.
